My brother and I used this tailor under recommendation from friends and were certainly not disappointed. A Dong Silk's strong points are their customer service, skillful expertise and their humane working conditions.
Upon arrival I was instantly introduced to Van, an experienced, knowledgeable tailor with proficient English and professional attitude. I presented images of my desired garments and Van was immensely helpful in my fabric selection and listening to to my comments and complaints, providing expertise where necessary.
Over the next few days I was always warmly greeted by Van who would drop what ever was in her hands to guide me to the changing room and patiently wait whilst I tried on each garment, all the while listening to my concerns, queries and offering advice to perfect each and every item.
By having a single worker assigned to me and my garments, it meant I was never repeating myself to different workers and the progress of each garment was being well tracked without confusion. This was especially usefully in the case of my brother where the 6 suit jackets, 12 suit pants and 12 shirts may become overwhelming, yet his tailor was able to tell him at any point the process of any garment.
A concern of mine was that any tailor capable of producing completed, personalized garments in such a short turn around would be an inhumane workplace. Thus, at my request I was guided across the road to the company's factory, where I beheld a breathable, well-lit room filled with skilled workers and even managed to identify several of my own pieces being worked on. A Dong Silk treat their staff with respect and a comfortable working environment. I was also pleased to hear that the factory staff are granted a two hour lunch and reasonable working hour.
Whilst they are more pricey than other tailors, what you are paying is still less than what you would find in shops and you are paying for quality fabrics, comfortable working conditions and skillful expertise. For a pair of tailored, fitted, high-waisted pants I paid $50 USD, for a double breasted woolen coat I paid $180 USD and then for two formal tops, a silk-over-the-knee floral skirt, an A-line skirt and fitted cocktail dress I $290 USD.
There is no other tailor I trust and no other establishment I would visit. If you don't believe me just visit the largest store at 62 Tran Hung Dao.
